Construction of the Roof at Wat Raksmey Sophonaram Monastery
The construction of a two-story building is nearing completion at the Wat Raksmey Sophonaram monastery. This facility will serve as a space where monks receive food offerings, attend Dhamma lectures, and practice in a dedicated meditation hall. While the structure is almost finished, the final crucial step remains: building the roof.
Currently, about 15 monks reside at the monastery.
On the Merit of Offering Shelter to the Sangha
Offering a dwelling to the Sangha protects monks from cold, heat, wild animals, insects, and harsh weather, while providing a secluded space for meditation practice.
- In the Dakkhinavibhanga Sutta (MN 142), the Buddha taught that an offering made to the Sangha as a community yields immeasurably great kammic results.
- In the Vanaropa Sutta (SN 1.47), the Buddha taught that the merit of those who provide shelter increases constantly—"both day and night."
For decades to come, every meditation session, every Dhamma lecture, and every meal shared under this roof will bring wholesome fruits to all who participated in its creation.
