Neither the monks nor the monastery as a whole takes any part in this fundraiser. This need became known to the kappiya, and the fundraiser is organized on his initiative. This lets anyone who wishes take part in this giving, and in this way accumulate merit and develop the dāna pāramī.
Medical care for monks and nuns on Aug 1 - 16: a hand operation, a monthly antipsychotic injection, an MRI scan of the cervical spine, venous and leg doppler ultrasound scans, an abdominal ultrasound, laboratory blood and thyroid tests, doctor and specialist consultations, a hearing test, a visual field test and an eye biometry scan, wound dressings and physiotherapy, prescription eyeglasses, an orthopaedic coccyx cushion and other medical supplies, and prescription medicines and vitamins — along with two fund transfers to the Kahagolla Monastery for medicine.

Some costs are hard to predict and raise in advance: medical ones are decided on the spot — which tests are needed, which medicines get prescribed. By sharing the cost, you help sustain prompt support for the Sangha.
